JavaScript JavaScript Basics (Retired) Storing and Tracking Information with Variables Create a variable with a string

What am I doing wrong?

I feel like Iā€™m missing something that is obvious.

app.js
var player=('Jasmine')
document.write("player");
index.html
<!DOCTYPE HTML>
<html>
<head>
  <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8">
  <title>JavaScript Basics</title>
</head>
<body>
<script src="app.js"></script>
</body>
</html>

A couple things that need fixing:

You seem to be putting 'Jasmine' in parentheses in your declaration of the variable player. This is an unnecessary step. Assign it a string literal, like this:

var player = 'Jasmine';

Also, you seem to be wanting to print 'Jasmine' using document.write(). However, you have put quotes around your variable name inside document.write(), which will literally print the string "player" instead of what is contained in the variable player. Remove those quotes, like this:

document.write(player);
