what am I doing wrong here.

I have set the width right but it is not working

Are you sure you set the width INSIDE the media query ? At the very bottom ? If you do that, that's going to work.

  @media screen and (min-width: 480px) {
          #gallery li {
              width:28.3333%;
           }
