how to make first 4 items and last 4 items into a single value?

slices.py 
def first_4(ite):
    return list(ite)[:4]

def first_and_last_4(ite)
    fir4= list(ite)[:4]
    las4= list(ite)[-4:]
    fin8= fir4 + las4
    return fin8
