What does “POINTS” mean?

What does the word >points reference in relation to course material you’ve completed? Is 316 points the equivalent of 316 hours?

My understanding is that the "points" are essentially just a fun motivational tool. While they are affected by study progress, they do not directly relate to time spent. Ways you gain points from the lessons include:

  • Watch a Video (any length) 1 point
  • Complete a Quiz 6 points
  • Complete a Code Challenge 12 points
  • Complete a Course Stage 30 points
  • Complete a Course (all quizzes and challenges) 60 points
  • Complete a Track 150 points

But you can also get points from participation in the Community Forum, when you:

  • Have a Forum Post Upvoted 1 point
  • Have a Forum Post selected as "Best Answer" 12 points

Nearly 2/3 of my points are from Forum participation.
