whenever i type something new in it always says that task one has been removed a little help?

I also typed what you did Timothy, without the second declaration of the variable, and I got the same error message as you. Then I switched the '#' to "#".
It really should not matter, so I think it is a little bug in the code challenge perhaps? But it did the trick. Here is the code I used to test it out.

var lastName = "Smith";
var userName = id.toUpperCase() + "#" + lastName.toUpperCase();
