What is wrong with my example?

The error says I did not attach the # symbol between id and lastName vars.

app.js 
var id = "23188xtr";
var lastName = "Smith";

var userName = id.toUpperCase() + '#' + lastName.toUpperCase();
index.html 
<!DOCTYPE HTML>
<html>
<head>
  <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8">

Hi,

There is nothing wrong with your code. But to complete the challenge maybe try:

var id = "23188xtr";
var lastName = "Smith";

var userName = id.toUpperCase();
userName += '#' + lastName.toUpperCase();

I think that's just a bug trying to get you to use the += operator. Or try to use double quotes on the "#".

Your code is fine. I had the same problem when I was doing that one. Try:

var id = "23188xtr";
var lastName = "Smith";

var userName = id;

document.write(userName.toUpperCase() + "#" + lastName.toUpperCase());

try:

var userName = id.toUpperCase() + "#" + lastName.toUpperCase();
