what is wrong with this code

i don't see why this would not work

def add(num1,num2):
  float(num1)
  float(num2)
  return num1 + num2

Your code is converting the arguments to floats but not assigning the result to a variable. The return is using the unchanged arguments in the return. Here is one solution:

def add(num1, num2):
    fl_num1 = float(num1) 
    fl_num2 = float(num2)
    return fl_num1 + fl_num2
