In this case it's better to use letter as the parameter and use real value only when you pass the argument, like this:
function max(x, y) {
if (x>y) { // Check if x is larger than y. If the condition is TRUE, x is the larger number
return x;
} else { // Otherwise, it's a given that y is the larger number
return y;
}
// To call the function
max(6,5);
