<?php
echo $name;
?>
Formatting your code would really help you. Formatting helps you see what is going on. Compare how I would write it with what you wrote:
// My code
<?php
$name = "Mike";
echo $name;
?>
// Your code
<?php
$name = "Mike";
?>
<?php echo $name ?>
