what's wrong with following? if (car_speed >= 40) && (car_speed <=50) return safe end (no space for more)

I just get same note "no correct value in return value"

The problem is that you are returning a variable called safe but it wants you to return a String that has the contents "safe". Just add quote marks around safe and it should work!

def check_speed(car_speed)
  # write your code here
  if (car_speed >= 40) && (car_speed <=50)
    return "safe"
   end
end
