When I click the preview icon that looks like an eye in workspace I dl an unknown file that won't open

I can't preview the website I am building in the workspace. When I click the preview icon that looks like an eye in workspace I dl an unknown file type that I can not open. Internet Explorer offers me the choice to open or save the file. Either way it asks me what program I would like to open it with. Please help, I need to complete this beginner course quickly, however the preview function is not working properly for me.
