Where to start

Lets just say I know nothing about coding and I have fudged my way building Wordpress sites using just the workings in the background. I have been working through some of your Wordpress tutorials; however, I need to learn PHP, html, CSS and Javascript. My question is, what order is the best to learn coding for Wordpress?? Is there a process I can use to absorb the information?

A little guidance please.

Hey Mark,

For the HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, the best path would probably be for you to complete the Front End Development Track.

From there, there would be a couple options for you:

  1. The PHP Development Track

  2. The 2 WordPress Tracks that Treehouse offers: Learn WordPress and WordPress Development

There are also many individual courses and workshops, but I recommend completing a subject's track first and then adding to that with the individual ones, as the Tracks are designed to teach in a logical and progressing manner.

I think it depends on what you think would work best for you. Jason's path is perfectly fine. But for me I wanted to get into every aspect for WordPress. For the first WordPress track you don't need to know a lot if any PHP code.

So when I was ready to get into WordPress, I did

  • Learn WordPress Track
  • PHP Track
  • WordPress Development.

But before this i too went into Front End Development after the Web Design track. Depending on how much designs you want from your tech career, you can probably go straight ahead the Front End Design Track and go from there. :)
