where to start as a backend developer?

Im a front end web developer looking to start learning how to be a back end web developer (and ultimately a full stack developer). Where language beyond SQL would be you recommend to be most helpful? Ruby?

It's all up to you! Learn whatever you want. Nothing is un-learnable, but here's some of my choices that I like and that are popular:

  • Python
  • Ruby
  • Java
  • PHP

Hope this helps and Happy learning! ~Alex

Thanks Alexander Davison, in terms of Web Application development involving market place, financial transactions, and user login systems is there a more preferred full stack language?

Im reading a lot about Ruby on Rail and MEAN...your (or anyones) thoughts?
