Python Python Basics (2015) Number Game App Squared

While doing this challenge, int("2") doesn't give 2 as the output, when under a function call. What is wrong?

The code is attached. For an input of "2", the output is obtained as "2""2""2", instead of 4

squared.py 
# EXAMPLES
# squared(5) would return 25
# squared("2") would return 4
# squared("tim") would return "timtimtim"

def squared(num):
    num = input("Enter a number: ")

    try:
        num1 = int(num)
        return(num1 * num1)
    except ValueError:
        return(num * len(num))

Your logic here is right, but you don't need to call input. You should instead just operate on the parameter that the function gives you
