Why can't we omit 'isset' here?

Referring to the code below:

<?php if(isset($_GET["status"])) && $_GET["status"] == "thanks" {..}?>

Why we need first argument i.e. isset($_GET["status"]) ? Because if it is not set then the second condition will be false anyway!

Referencing an element that doesn't exist can cause warnings or errors. It is good practice to always make sure they exist first.
