Why do I get an error when I put a space after the ! in <! DOCTYPE html>? Isn't that incorrect syntax?

In the lesson, Nick says to put a space after the !. I do that (as directed) and I get the code challenge wrong. I eliminate the space and I get the code challenge right.

I think this may be a simple miscommunication. Nick instructs you to put a space after the word "DOCTYPE", which is correct, but I don't believe he says to put one after the exclamation point.

The appropriate syntax for the DOCTYPE declaration is indeed:

<!DOCTYPE html>

No space before or after the "!", only after the word "DOCTYPE".

yes its the right answer....i encountered the same problem..but listening and having more focus to the lesson will save you to errors.happy coding! treehouse ROCKS!
