Python Python Basics (2015) Python Data Types List cleanup

Why does my code not work? I used del messy[8]

my problem wants me to delete 8 from a list. i did exactly what he did in the problem yet it still says "list assignment out of index range"

lists.py
messy = [5, 2, 8, 1, 3]
del messy[8]

del deletes by index, not value. To delete the 8, you need to do this:

del messy[2]

Thanks!
