why doesn't this work?

def reverse_evens(list): reverse_list = list[::-1] return reverse_list[::2]

slices.py 
def first_4(list):
    return list[:4]

def first_and_last_4(list):
    return list[:4]+list[-4:]

def odds(list):
    return list[1::2]

def reverse_evens(list):
    reverse_list = list[::-1]
    return reverse_list[::2]

I think you should first get the even-indexed values from the input iterable, then reverse the even-indexed values.

Try:

def reverse_evens(list):
    evens = list[::2]
    return evens[::-1]

Or, you can do it in two lines:

def reverse_evens(list):
    return list[::2][::-1]
