Why doesn't this XML code apply to an empty activity?

andriod:screenOrientation="portrait" android:parentActivity=".UI.MainActivity"

The teacher used a blank activity and he was able to use this XML. It says, "Error:(27) No resource identifier found for attribute 'parentActivity' in package 'android'"
