Python Python Collections (2016, retired 2019) Dictionaries Word Count

Why is my program not working? please help

so I've ran my code a couple times on repl.it and is doing what i want it do, but when I check on tree house it doesn't accept it. there is probably a random bug that I'm overlooking

wordcount.py
# E.g. word_count("I do not like it Sam I Am") gets back a dictionary like:
# {'i': 2, 'do': 1, 'it': 1, 'sam': 1, 'like': 1, 'not': 1, 'am': 1}
# Lowercase the string to make it easier.

def word_count(random_string):

    diction = dict()
    new_random = random_string.lower()
    for word in new_random.split():
        diction[word] = new_random.count(word.lower())
    return diction

Your issue is that you are doing a count on new_random but new_random isn't split into words. I would do the split at the same time as lower or you could just add it at count() time.
