CSS How to Make a Website CSS: Cascading Style Sheets Center the Wrapper

Why is padding being added outside the wrapper?

I thought the padding would only add space inwards and not between the wrapper and the browser window.

The definition that is below the video for padding is:

padding - Sets the space on the interior four sides of an element. Accepts any CSS length unit.

So I don't really understand how come it added space on the outside (I thought this was the margin). I'm confused now. Can someone please explain me what's happening here?

Are you sure you added it to the proper element?

I didn't add anything I'm just watching the video's - when he refreshed the page he said he have outer and inner space.

Edit: ooh never mind, he also had the margin property! So stupid of me. Thanks anyway
