Why not return columIndex instead of cursor.getInt(columnIndex);

Hi!

I have a question concerning the following code:

private int getIntFromColumnName(Cursor cursor, String columnName){ int columnIndex = cursor.getColumnIndex(columnName); return cursor.getInt(columnIndex);}

Why don't we return columnIndex instead of cursor.getInt(columnIndex)? As far as I understand they both return the same int?

columnIndex is the index of the column with name columnName, but cursor.getInt(columnIndex) is the value of that column.
