why overflow: hidden cleared float in this?

i am confused on how overflow: hidden was able to clear floats

The "overflow" property doesn't directly "clear" the floats.

But what it does is to create a new "block formatting context" which will also force the collapsed element to expand to the full height of its floated child elements.
