CSS How to Make a Website CSS: Cascading Style Sheets Use ID Selectors

Why won't the file main.css open?

Created file but can't work in it.

the link in the head of your html should look like this <link rel="stylesheet" href="css/main.css">

then the actual css file needs to be saved in a folder titled css and that folder should sit right next to your html file in whatever folder your html file is sitting in.
