why would an # appear in between two variables?

var id = "23188xtr"; var lastName = "Smith";

var userName = id + lastName.toUpperCse();

why am I getting an #?

Hi, the # sing wouldnt appear unless you add it in with a string. The question is asking for first name in upper case then the "#" sign then the las name in uppercase
