19,925 PointsWord Count Challenge. Can't get this to pass....
This keeps failing on me, telling me not to split on a space... the function works perfectly in workspaces... Can't get it to pass in the code challenge though.
All help appreciated. Thanks,
# E.g. word_count("I do not like it Sam I Am") gets back a dictionary like:
# {'i': 2, 'do': 1, 'it': 1, 'sam': 1, 'like': 1, 'not': 1, 'am': 1}
# Lowercase the string to make it easier.
def word_count(string):
dictionary = {}
#take the sting and split it into words and put them in a list
string = string.lower()
string = string.replace(", " , " ")
string = string.replace(".", " ")
string_list = string.split(" ")
for word in string_list:
if word not in dictionary:
dictionary[word] = 1
else:
dictionary[word] += 1
return dictionary

3,523 PointsHi, you have good code but one silly mistake ..... put "return" in for loop)
for word in string_list:
if word not in dictionary:
dictionary[word] = 1
else:
dictionary[word] += 1
return dictionary
and use split for everything
string.split()
