def word_count(my_list): d={} for char in re.split('\s', my_list.lower()) if char in d: d[char] += 1 else: d[char] = 1 return d
this code is not working. Please point out the error.
# E.g. word_count("I do not like it Sam I Am") gets back a dictionary like:
# {'i': 2, 'do': 1, 'it': 1, 'sam': 1, 'like': 1, 'not': 1, 'am': 1}
# Lowercase the string to make it easier.
def word_count(my_list):
d={}
for char in re.split('\s', my_list.lower())
if char in d:
d[char] += 1
else:
d[char] = 1
return d

42,386 PointsHi Rakshit, you're just missing the colon from the end of for line. I would recommending naming your variables to something more intuitive, as my_list is actually a string, and char is actually a word.. but it's not required to complete this challenge.
import re
def word_count(my_list):
d={}
for char in re.split('\s', my_list.lower()): # colon here
if char in d:
d[char] += 1
else:
d[char] = 1
return d
