wordpress installation

Hi there! i already installed wordpress with Godaddy hosting, but I didn't use Filezilla for uploading content. I already tried building a website with wordpress and My problem is that I don't understand why I need filezilla when I can work via Safari to upload files and pictures.

Thank you in advance.

Hi Denis, if i am understanding you correctly, you will not need Filezilla at this point. You can upload files right within the WP admin area via Safari browser. But Filezilla will come in handy when you need to do upgrades for WP versions. They always suggest backing up all your files before upgrading and Filezilla will come in handy for things like that.

Hope this helped, David

Hi Denis!

FileZilla or other FTP-clients like CyberDuck is the software you use for managing files on your web-server.

I know that cPanel also has a File Manager feature. The problem with that would be when you need to upload multiple files. FTP clients generally offer a very good interface for managing the files on your server.

Do not hesistate to ask if you have any other queries. Happy learning!

Hi, I also already installed my site, and am not understanding how/why I need FileZilla. How do I load the files into FileZilla without overriding everything that was already installed? Or is that the point? Then at what point am I using FileZilla?

Hi Jennifer, Filezilla would only be needed to back up your site i.e, or for large file transfers. You could grab your whole Wordpress installation from where it resides on the hosting site for your site and use Filezilla to transfer it to your desktop in the case of site back ups, before wordpress version updates etc. You could also ftp one file if you wanted. But i use Coda in that case, which is my code editor but also has ftp capability, for the smaller jobs, file replacements and the like on my site. Hope this helps or let me know if i can make anything clearer.
