Working w/ Hash Keys Challenge: has_key? method am I crazy????

So this challenge wants us to use the has_key? method to see of a variable exists in the hash and if true to also add a new variable to the hash. I run this code:

hash = { "name" => "Bread", "quantity" => 1, "calories" => 100 } if hash.has_key?("calories") == true hash["food"] = true end

and get BUMMER! The food variable was not found

However I also set this up in my terminal and added a puts hash and got this back:

eljson$ ruby hash.rb {"name"=>"Bread", "quantity"=>1, "calories"=>100, "food"=>true}
