Indentation is critical to Python, so it's not clear how a program will perform when it is displayed unformatted.  When posting code to the forum, use Markdown formatting (https://teamtreehouse.com/library/code) to preserve the appearance, or share the entire workspace by making a snapshot (https://teamtreehouse.com/library/previews-and-snapshots) and posting the link to it.
But just guessing about indentation, it looks like this code might run without errors, but might not do what you expect.  In particular, it doesn't seem like it would square the number entered.
Also, if this is intended for the challenge that follows the video, it has specific objectives not met by this code.  And you won't need to "input" or "print" anything there.

I decided to test my skills and modified your code. If I made mistakes please correct me, been only practicing for a few hours.
def square(number):
    return number * number

number_chosen = int(input("square a value. "))
squared_number = square(number_chosen)

print("the value is {}".format(squared_number))
