I have seen some document type elements written like this:
<!doctype html>
instead of
<!DOCTYPE html>
Does it matter how it is written? If yes, why?

5,971 PointsIt doesn't matter, that's true, but by convention it is customary to use caps on the <!DOCTYPE>, and this is a good habit to follow conventions.

A typical QWERTY keyboard, used in the US (the letters QWERTY are the first six letters on this keyboard layout), has the exclamation mark on the 1 key. To get an exclamation mark, you would hold down Shift while you hit the 1 key.
If you're not on a QWERTY keyboard, it may be different. I strongly suggest taking a keyboarding class if this is difficult for you. You will have a very hard time with programming if you can't find the keys you need for letters, brackets, punctuation, etc.
