Java Java Basics Getting Started with Java IO

Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong? I tried the %s, firstName, and the \n.

I keep getting an error.

IO.java
// I have imported java.io.Console for you. It is a variable called console.
String firstName = console.readLine("Cre ");
String lastName = console.readLine("Lee ");
console.printf = firstName ("Cre ");

The printf() method takes a String as its first parameter. That String will contain one or more format specifiers, and for each format specifier there needs to be a variable to replace it. Here the format specifiers are %s, which mean they can be replaced by a String. %d expects an int, etc.

String firstName = console.readLine("Cre ");
String lastName = console.readLine("Lee ");
console.printf("First name: %s", firstName);
console.printf("Last name: %s", lastName);

Thank you jcorum. This makes it a lot clearer.
