Java Java Basics Perfecting the Prototype String Equality

Can someone tell me what i did wrong?

i don't see what i'm doing wrong. can someone help?

String firstExample = "hello";
if (firstExample = secondExample) {
  console.printf("first is equal to second");
}
String secondExample = "hello";
String thirdExample = "HELLO";

In your if statement, you are using "=", which means you are assigning value to string variable firstExample. You should use "==". It means you are comparing one value with another. You should do this:

if(firstExample == secondExample) { //enter your code here }

like AAKAR said, your if statement wrong because you are assigning the value of firstExample to secondExample through the use of a single = sign. However as a suggestion, you should use the .equals() method rather than == when dealing with Strings
