Can't see what I'm doing wrong

Could somebody provide their solution for this problem?

class Letter:
    def __init__(self, pattern=None):
        self.pattern = pattern
    def __str__(self):
        out = ""
        for char in self.pattern:
            if char == ".":
                out += "-dot"
            elif char == "-":
                out += "-dash"
        return(out.replace("-", "", 1))

        pattern = ['.', '.', '.']
        super().__init__(pattern)

You are checking for a hyphen when you should be checking for an underscore here:

elif char == "-":

and "dash" for every "_" (underscore).
