Java Java Basics Getting Started with Java Strings, Variables, and Formatting

console.printf ("%s can code in Java!" , firstName); Wouldn't this be the correct way to include the string formatter?

how come the my quiz is not recognizing the formatter?

Name.java
// I have setup a java.io.Console object for you named console
String firstName= "Darryl";
console.printf
  ("%s can code in Java!\n", firstName);

Yes I have done it that way as well. Ive even tried firstName outside of the parenthesis (even though that would be incorrect). When I have tried it the way you have provided even without the \n , I would get a notice that said I should keep the printf statement intact as if it didn't recognize the string formatter (%s). Thank you so much for the help, I have to keep going . I know my code is correct. I have an app to build!

:smiley:

I think \n has caused the problem. The statement should be without \n (new line)

Keep on doing the good work ...

Hey Darryl,

this is a weird old bug going on here :)

Try to write this line together (no spaces) :

console.printf("%s can code in Java!\n", firstName);

Let us know if my suggestion could solve the trick ...
