Does `Union`, `Intersect` or `Except` imply that the columns are of the same datatype?

I understand that when making UNION, for instance, , both tables have to have the same number of columns, but do the columns also have to have the same datatype?

Yes, but since SQLite is essentially untyped you can probably get away with not following that rule.
