Don't understand the first part of this task.

I don't understand the first part of this task. What am i supposed to do?

You have the right idea, and the right operator, but your terms are reversed. The item being added ("tile", singular) goes on the right side of the operator, and the string being added to ("tiles", plural) goes on the left:

    // TODO: Add the tile to tiles
    tiles += tile;
