family tree instances.py combiner

My combiner function isn't running. Any suggestions?

instances.py
def combiner(listsn):
    total = 0
    words = ""
    for sn in listsn:
        if isinstance(sn, (int, float)):
            total += sn
        else if isinstance(sn, str):
            words += sn
    total = str(total)
    words = words.join(words)
    words = words.join(total)
        return words

You are close! A few errors to correct:

  • "else if" should be elif
  • joining the words list should be
words = "".join(words)
  • return statement should be indented less to align with the for statement
  • since words and total are finally both strings, they can be returned simply as
words + total

Post back if you need more help. Good luck!!!
