4,640 PointsGoals on Treehouse - My own goals. Plus, what are yours?
I was asked by the amazing Ryan Carson - what my goal is for joining Treehouse.
He's the super short story
- 25+ years in I.T
- 15 years as a programmer, C, C++, Enterprise Java, HTML and CSS.
- 10 years as a delivery/project manager.
I stopped coding about 10 years ago. I lost my love of it :-( and headed down the PM path.
10 years forward to now and a changing world.
- Being a Project Manager and finding work at 45 years old is becoming bloody hard.
- My programming skills (as they are at the moment) are not marketable
So what do I do about it??? Educate myself !!!
Here are my goals:
GOAL: Get back into programming ASAP! GOAL: Get up to speed with current technologies. GOAL: Create a Kitchen Management System (SAAS) for the Quick Service Restaurant industry. (my wife and I own a franchisee here in Australia - A Red Rooster). There is a real need for this product, well I think so anyway.
I've also asked by my mate (whom I worked with 10 years ago) to join him as a partner in his IT consultancy business.
I won't be doing "full-time" programming however, I feel the real NEED to understand current technologies so I can service my clients better. Plus, i'm finding coding FUN again. Every day I'm studying, creating, even surprising myself! <grin>
So what's your goals??? Are you an old fart like me?? Or a late teen wanting to get into the industry!
Talking / networking with other's is a real key to success to this industry. Sometimes the adage is very very true, it's who you know!
Looking forward to chatting with you!
Take Care. Benjamin (Victoria, Australia)

4,640 PointsHey Boonsuen!! Lovely to meet you.
Thanks for your reply!!!!
I started coding at 12 years old... When the only computer that existed in the neighbourhood was at the local library. I didn't computers in school until high school ( 13 years old ).
Even being in this industry for 25+ years... You never, ever stop learning.
Today, it's bootstrap 4, vue.js, react... Last year was angular... Soooo many frameworks... but in essence what it comes down to the most is the 'user experience'.
That's what excites me about technology, seeing that end user - LOVING what I or my team has created. That is super exciting!
Treehouse - is indeed great. The video content and learning is just right!!!

18,788 PointsFor me, the impact of learning to code is huge. I joined Treehouse on early 2016 when I was 14. Just one year the result is amazing, I am able to utilise the technology to build something while expanding the knowledge. So glad that I discovered Treehouse. Still a whole lot to learn.
