How do I target just the span element inside the class intro?

Im having a serious brain fart, thanks

Try this:

.intro span {
  font-weight: bold;
  font-style: italic;
}

i believe your class inside the p has some spacing issues.

And, the comma in css is used to add multiple elements for styling.

So right now you are targeting both .intro and any span that is on the page. not just the span in the intro.

The correct way to target span inside class intro should be as below -

.intro span { font-weight:Bold; font-style:italic; }
