how do you write the email in the correct format for this challenge?

In the library database there's a patrons table listing all the users of the library. The columns are id, first_name, last_name, address, email, library_id and zip_code. Generate a list of strings that are in the following format: Andrew Chalkley andrew@teamtreehouse.com. Concatenate the first name, last name and email address for all users. Alias it to to_field. This will be used in the "To" field in email marketing.

Anne, please include a link to the particular challenge you are asking about. It takes quite a while to answer a question if we first have to find the course, then the stage and then the challenge.

I completed this earlier today.

Here are some tips.

You will want to fill out the right fields.

SELECT <column> || <column> || <column> AS to_field FROM <table>;

Remember that you're combining columns, and some extra characters, using concatenation (the || operator). Be sure to include spaces between the columns and add angles (<>) around the email address.

If you need more explicit help, you might find this previous post useful. Or this other one. And if you re-watch the video just before the challenge, there's an example where something very similar is done.

For me, the confusion came with the format of the email. If you run the SELECT email FROM patrons query, you will see the format as Andrew.Chalkley@teamtreehouse.com. The format for this challenge shows just the first name in the email address. Was thinking of using the REPLACE function.

Update, when using Daniel Dugan's query:

SELECT first_name || " " || last_name || " <" || email || ">" AS to_field FROM patrons

the challenge completes in success, but returns the results only showing the first name?
