I can't seem to identify the problem with this code

the code is not running as expected, please help

racecar.py 
class RaceCar:
    laps = 0

    def __init__(self, color, fuel_remaining, **kwargs):
        self.color = color
        self.fuel_remaining = fuel_remaining

        for key, value in kwargs.items():
            setattr(self, key, value)

     def run_lap(self, length):
        fuel_remaining = fuel_remaining - (length*0.125)
        while laps > 0:
            laps = laps + 1


car1 = RaceCar('red', 4)       
RaceCar.run_lap(car1, 3)

The "run_lap" method doesn't need a loop. Each time it is called is considered one lap.

And references to the internal field "laps" need a "self." prefix.
