The problem is that you need to place the link inside the list element.

<!DOCTYPE html> <html> <head> <title>Lists and Links</title> </head> <body> <ul> <li><a href="cakes.html">Cakes</a></li> <li><a href="pies.html">Pies</a></li> <li><a href="candy.html">Candy</a> </li> </ul>
</body> </html>

I would suggest you have the <li> tag as the outer tag I.e.

<li> <a href= "cakes.html">Cakes</a></li>
<li><a href= "pies.html">Pies</a></li>
 <li> <a href= "candy.html">Candy</a></li>

try this and run to see if the error disappears

thanks. this worked!!!

Trying moving those anchor tags inside of your li tags.

<li><a href="#">Text</a></li>
