I honestly dont know what it's asking me to do and I've tried everything

How do you initialize the base value and can you explain what it means. The word initialize has always confused me in the development world and the more I read the more confused I am.

Polygon.cs
namespace Treehouse.CodeChallenges
{
    class Polygon
    {
        public readonly int NumSides;

        public Polygon(int numSides)
        {
            NumSides = numSides;
        }

    }

    class Square : Polygon
    {
        public readonly int SideLength;

        public Square (int sideLength) : base(numSides)
        {
                  base(4);
        }
    }
}

Your last 2 staements need modifying. Try this:

`` namespace Treehouse.CodeChallenges { class Polygon { public readonly int NumSides;

public Polygon(int numSides)
{
    NumSides = numSides;
}

} class Square : Polygon { public readonly int SideLength; public Square(int sideLength) : base(4) { SideLength = sideLength;

}

} } ``
