in the HTTP course: what text editor does this console use?

after each time i run the commands i have to exit out of the console and "show console" again. He does not do this in the course. did i miss the part when he showed us how to use this particular console? or is there another module for learning how to use this console? i didn't see it in the teachers notes. i've tried the escape keys, as referenced in the console after connecting to the port to no avail. thank you in advance.
