Maybe I'm missing something, but from the instructions and examples this "cleans up" the file type consistency

6,572 PointsIt looks like. You are removing the existing file and creating a new one with the same name. Use os.rename
instead.
for dname,subdirs,files in os.walk(path):
for fname in files:
