is this kind of tools the state of the art? jQuery already seems something almost deprecated, isn't it?

New tools come out all the time, but they aren't always adopted on a wide scale. Depending on what kind of development you do, you may need some specialized tools that will probably only be taught by their vendor.

As to jQuery, it's not needed to resolve compatibility issues as much anymore because browsers are much more consistent in the way they implement JavaScript, and the language itself has evolved to do natively many things previously done only by jQuery. But it has other uses, and so many other tools depend on it that you can be sure it will be around for a long time yet.
