PHP PHP Arrays and Control Structures PHP Arrays Multidimensional Arrays

printing from multidimensional arrays php

I am trying to echo the keys from the multidimensional array but have no idea what I am doing wrong. Please help anyone!

index.php
<?php
//edit this array
$contacts = array($Alena = array("name" => "Alena Holligan", "email" => "alena.holligan@teamtreehouse.com"),
                  $Dave = array("name" => "Dave McFarland", "email" => "dave.mcfarland@teamtreehouse.com") ,
                  $Treasure = array("name" => "Treasure Porth", "email" => "treasure.porth@teamtreehouse.com"),
                  $Andrew = array("name" => "Andrew Chalkley", "email" => "andrew.chalkley@teamtreehouse.com"));

echo "<ul>\n";
//$contacts[0] will return 'Alena Holligan' in our simple array of names.
echo "<li>$contacts[$Alena]['name']".":". "$contacts[$Alena]['email']</li>\n";
echo "<li>$contacts[$Dave]['name']". ":" . "$contacts[$Dave]['email']</li>\n";
echo "<li>$contacts[$Treasure]['name']". ":" . "$contacts[$Treasure]['email']</li>\n";
echo "<li>$contacts[$Andrew]['name']" .":". "$contacts[$Andrew]['email']</li>\n";
echo "</ul>\n";

The concatenation is a problem. There are quotes around your variables. The quotes should not surround your PHP variables, but only the HTML elements.

I'm not sure this is passing code, but this is how I got the desired output. Check out how I'm referring to each element in the array, it's a little different from what you've done.

echo "<ul>\n";
//$contacts[0] will return 'Alena Holligan' in our simple array of names.
echo "<li>{$contacts[0]['name']}". " : " . "{$contacts[0]['email']}</li>\n";
echo "<li>{$contacts[1]['name']}" . " : " . "{$contacts[1]['email']}</li>\n";
echo "<li>{$contacts[2]['name']}" . " : " . "{$contacts[2]['email']}</li>\n";
echo "<li>{$contacts[3]['name']}" . " : " . "{$contacts[3]['email']}</li>\n";
echo "</ul>\n";

I changed the the code to echo the array elements. I tried a new way and your way, but now it says that task one is no longer passing.

<?php //edit this array $contacts = array("Alena" = array('name'=>'Alena Holligan', 'email'=>'alena.holligan@teamtreehouse.com'), "Dave" = array('name'=> 'Dave McFarland', 'email'=>'dave.mcfarland@teamtreehouse.com'), "Treasure" = array('name'=>'Treasure Porth', 'email'=>'treasure.porth@teamtreehouse.com'), "Andrew" = array('name'=>'Andrew Chalkley', 'email'=>'andrew.chalkley@teamtreehouse.com') );

echo "<ul>\n"; echo"<li>{$contacts[0]['name']}". " : " . "{$contacts[0]['email']}</li>\n"; echo "<li>{$contacts[1]['name']}" . " : " . "{$contacts[1]['email']}</li>\n"; echo "<li>{$contacts[2]['name']}" . " : " . "{$contacts[2]['email']}</li>\n"; echo "<li>{$contacts[3]['name']}" . " : " . "{$contacts[3]['email']}</li>\n"; echo "</ul>\n";

<?php //edit this array $contacts [] = ['name' => 'Alena Holligan', 'email' => 'alena.holligan@teamtreehouse.com', ]; $contacts [] = ['name' => 'Dave McFarland', 'email' => 'dave.mcfarland@teamtreehouse.com',]; $contacts [] = ['name' => 'Treasure Porth', 'email' => 'treasure.porth@teamtreehouse.com',]; $contacts [] = ['name' => 'Andrew Chalkley', 'email' => 'andrew.chalkley@teamtreehouse.com',];

echo "<ul>\n"; //$contacts[0] will return 'Alena Holligan' in our simple array of names. echo "<li>" . $contacts[0]['name'] ." : ". $contacts[0]['email'] . "</li>\n"; echo"<li>" . $contacts[1]['name'] ." : ". $contacts[1]['email'] ."</li>\n"; echo "<li>" . $contacts[2]['name'] ." : ". $contacts[2]['email'] ."</li>\n"; echo"<li>" . $contacts[3]['name'] ." : ". $contacts[3]['email'] ."</li>\n"; echo "</ul>\n";
