trouble getting the math to square rather than multiplying the numbers together if I do number * 3 it just goes 333

Hey Tyler,

I think your problem is that you pass '3' into square(). This treats it as a string, so it repeats the string three times. Instead, you should use square(3) so that it treats it as an integer.

Also, the function should return the square of number. Even though the number = 3 in this case, the function should still use number * number.
