Still getting bummer after applying your help

can you help me spot the syntax error?

morse.py
class Letter:
    def __init__(self, pattern=None):
        self.pattern = pattern
    def __str__(self):
        code = []
        translate = ""
        for morse in self.pattern:
            if morse == ".":
                code.append("dot")
            elif morse == "_":
                code.append("dash")
        translate = code.join("-")
        return translate

class S(Letter):
    def __init__(self):
        pattern = ['.', '.', '.']
        super().__init__(pattern)

Hi Jason,

join() is a String method, not a List method.

The syntax you want for joining items from a list named code into a string delimited by - is:

"-".join(code)
